She was frustrated and had a difficult time getting into a daily Bible reading habit.  “Can you just break it down for me?”

As we begin another exciting Study with the Women’s Bible Cafe, it seems that more and more women are asking where to begin.  First and foremost there is no shame if you have never picked up that Bible, however, why not start today and form a life changing habit that will enrich and inspire you as you continue your walk with the Lord?

I have been reading the Bible since I was presented with my first one when I was 11 years old.  I truly love the rich histories of people just like me finding their way in life with the love, care and guidance of the Lord.   Yes, I have read the Bible cover to cover many times, but in all honesty, sometimes that is not the easiest way for me.

I have read the Bible through more times than I can count now, and have chunks of scripture memorized to help me on my day to day walk.  I need that, I am a mess as most of my friends will tell you.  On my own, I am just sin on a stick.  With Christ however, I find freedom, power and courage to be who He created me to be and walk the path He has laid before me.  Without His grace and the wisdom from The Bible I would be lost, we all would be utterly lost.

There are many different Bible reading plans out there and I have used a lot of them through the years.  But I thought I would share with you a few of my most favorite, and ones I still use today.

So, what are you waiting for?  I would truly like to know your thoughts on this one.  And if you want to try something completely wonderful and different, please join me as we begin our new study What Love Is at the Women’s Bible Cafe!

Here are a sampling of the Bible reading plans that I have used and enjoy.

1. 5.3.1 Plan ~ This is my standard plan. I read 5 chapters in Psalms, 3 chapters in other books, and 1 in Proverbs daily according to the date of the month. By the end of the year I have read my whole Bible through once, with Psalms and Proverbs read through 12 times. (that is once monthly)

2. Divide & Conquer Plan ~ This plan is pretty easy. There are 1189 chapters in the Bible. If you read approximately 3-4 chapters a day you will have read through the Bible in a year.

3. Follow the Leaders ~ This is a plan I made up on my own. I actually love history so I follow a person in the Bible. At the moment I am following the Apostle Paul through his missionary journeys. This is a terrific way to really get into the setting of each period of the Word and more often than not I see familiarity when I compare things with my life.

4. Chronologically ~ This is a great plan if you need the whole picture. You can start with the historical books and move on.

5. Devotional Bibles ~ I love a good devotional Bible. Some of my favorite have been The Women’s Devotional Bible and one simply called The Devotional Bible. What they do is take you through many portions of the Bible over the course of a year including wonderful devotional snippets from well known inspirational authors.

The most important thing in all of this is to read and be inspired. The more time you spend in daily reading, prayer and adoration, the more equipped you will be in your faith. Remember Paul said it best when he encouraged Timothy,

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,

a worker who has no need to be ashamed,

rightly handling the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15
